with other radio people from around the world. The info you gave was priceless.
Others I talked with seem to feel the same. You have the unique ability to go to
the heart of the matter and see and explain what works, why it works."
- Steve Scellick (USA)
"Fabulous! I learned a lot!"
- Graham Mack (England)
"Thanks for a fabulous weekend! Every session was interesting and
entertaining. You really do make a difference in the quality of radio throughout
the world. The only depressing thing is I've come back to work, listened to our
output, and realised what a huge task we have to get things right."
- Jeff Zycinski (Scotland)
"Thanks for a great weekend! All of the information presented will
increase my ability to perform a great show! The value of experience and
knowledge that was offered was worth double what we paid! Thanks again for a
great time and a new beginning!"

Here's just a bare sampling of what you'll learn from your MORNING SHOW
WAR COLLEGE tapes...
MORNING SHOW SUCCESS STRATEGIES (Part One)
Presenter: Dan O'Day
Are you just "showing up and winging it" every morning? Or, worse
yet, following a stale blueprint that makes your show very easy to perform
...but deadly dull for your listeners? You'll learn 23
proven, powerful strategies for achieving morning show dominance in
your market!
- Strategy #1: Without this in place, forget
it.
- Strategy #2: The ultimate secret of CNN's
success. And a really dramatic radio example of this principle in action.
- Strategy #3: Most morning shows get this
wrong...and it shows in their ratings. I'll demonstrate this with a hit
movie that disappointed the film studio....I'll show you how Howard
Stern has used it very effectively....And I'll share some
explicit, crucial tactics for your on-air newsperson.
- Strategy #4: Specific, actionable
guidelines for on-air teamwork - illustrated
with some great audio.
- Strategy #5: Most stations and morning
shows have never considered this
strategy...which hurts them both!
- Strategy #6: This is the principle that
separates run-of-the- mill, everyday "jocks" from morning
superstars. Very few morning shows know this
principle...which is why there are so few "superstar" shows. The
audio played to illustrate this principle is worth the cost of this entire
package! (Including an incredible bit by The Greaseman!
) By the way, if you ever use
material from the Internet, you must
hear this portion.
- Strategy #7: A lack of awareness of this
principle (and how to apply it) probably is the downfall of more failed
morning shows (and low-rated radio stations) than anything else. Please
share this principle with your program director, too!
- Strategy #8: A "secret
weapon" that you can begin using today!
(This one technique will set you
apart from everyone else in your market.)
MORNING SHOW INTERNET STRATEGIES
Presenter: Dan O'Day
Okay, so by now everyone agrees "the Internet is here to stay." But
so far the attempts of most morning shows to use the Internet as a ratings &
marketing tool are, well... pathetic. In this session, you'll be given an
instant overall understanding of how your show
can and should be using the Internet, plus one
great idea after another that you can start using immediately - regardless of
your budget!
- Stupid linking strategies (the kind employed by most station sites)
- A common, illegal website use. (Does your
station do this??)
- How to use your morning show website to get closer to your listeners
- What to stream...and when
- How to make your listeners love getting
e-mail from you!
- Radical morning show site content - for the boldest of programs!
- How to use your website to triple the
impact of your interviews
- If you talk about sports on your show, a
brilliant tactic that you and your audience will love!
- Increasing your cume via Viral Marketing
Bonus: I tie it all together for you by offering
a blueprint for how America's #1 morning show should
be using the Internet. (If yours is among the many morning programs that compete
against this show, you can use some of these tactics to beat them!)
RADICAL PHONES
Presenter: Dan O'Day
The telephone is your single most potent weapon in the unending battle for
listener loyalty. In this session, you'll learn some daring, unconventional
approaches to take home and introduce to your market...including two Advanced
Technology techniques that no one in your market
is using ...yet! Lots of great audio examples to
learn from! AND... The one thing every
phone call you air must accomplish! (Once you
learn this, the rest becomes easy.)
MORNING SHOW SUCCESS STRATEGIES (Part Two)
Presenter: Dan O'Day
- Strategy #9: If you're content to float
from job to job, market to market, you don't
need to know this principle. If you'd prefer to settle down and own
mornings in your market, you must do this.
- Strategy #10: The secret "key"
to winning over your audience. This is not
some kind of "feel-good," general principle that you might read in
a trade publication. It's an incredibly powerful tool that I've never
heard anyone else speak of. I'll explain it to you, and then I'll show you
how to begin using it immediately. (One of
the few morning jocks who understand this principle, by the way, is Rick
Dees. I'll share one of his secrets for exploiting this
principle.)
- Strategy #11: Frankly, most consultants
and PDs do not understand this principle at all...and their ratings suffer
as a result. As part of the discussion, you'll learn a vital research
principle that most radio people simply don't comprehend...illustrated by a
Las Vegas hotel that didn't understand this either and as a direct result is
in the process of losing $2 billion!
- Strategy #12: After I have explained this
to you in detail - and have explained how to apply it
on your own show - you'll never again
go back to your old way of doing things (unless, of course, you enjoy
having much less Time Spent Listening than you deserve).
- Strategy #13: An over-riding principle
that should dictate everything you do on-air
and off-air. Most morning hosts never even
think of this. Bad for them, but good for you
after you've heard these tapes!
- Strategy #14: If you want to increase your
Time Spent Listening substantially, this
strategy will be invaluable to you. In the long run, it might even make you
rich. Illustrated with an eye-opening audio example from Mark
& Brian.
- Strategy #15: Does your show ever
put listeners on-the-air? If so, then this single strategy will triple
the effectiveness of your calls! (I also share with you a dozen great
examples of how you can begin implementing
this strategy immediately!)
- Strategy #16: This is the secret
shortcut to your listeners' attention and loyalty. Master this
strategy, and you'll become virtually invincible
to current or future competition! (And no, it's not at all hard to
accomplish...once I've explained this strategy to you.)
THE COMPLETELY ORIGINAL YOU:
How to Entertain The World
by Exploiting Your Own Life
Presenter: Dick Orkin
Morning Show War College is devoted to helping your morning show stand
out from the crowd...and no one has had a more distinctive career than Dick
Orkin. Whether creating what became the most popular syndicated
character in radio history ("Chickenman") or creating radio
commercials that are so entertaining that listeners turn the radio UP when
they're on, Dick Orkin's success has been built upon a bold combination of
creativity and originality. In this remarkably intimate session, Orkin shares
with you his own secrets of how to take your
private experiences and turn them into powerful entertainment... and, in the
process, create radio features that are true benchmarks for your program and
your station.
Dick takes you step-by-step through a truly
revolutionary system for discovering fresh, completely original
characters & comedy...and you'll hear the
remarkable results that were achieved by our "live" attendees!
HOW TO CREATE WORLD-CLASS COMEDY...ON DEMAND
Ken Levine, Dan O'Day, Ron Osborn, Stevens & Grdnic
Most radio people who attempt on-air comedy try to make themselves
laugh ... but not necessarily their listeners. Your comedy is not
being compared only to that of competing morning shows; it's being compared to
the hottest TV comedies that your audience watches each night. In this
unprecedented session, for the first time ever
you'll learn the secrets these comedy masters use to create, edit, and refine
original mass-appeal material.
Four of the five panelists were extremely successful major market jocks who
relied primarily on humor. In this free-wheeling session, they all give blunt,
practical answers to straight questions - even "naming names" when
asked for examples of well-known morning hosts whose attempts at comedy are
...well, kind of lame.
- Three radically different approaches to writing with a partner
- How to write funny characters instead of jokes
- How to extend the life of a popular character on your show
- How to freshen up long-running characters to maintain their audience
appeal. (Do you think the guy who produced CHEERS for a decade might have
some valuable tips for you there?)
- How to "write funny" when under the stress of a deadline
- The easiest, most reliable and most rewarding way to make your listeners
laugh
YOUR COMEDY COACHES:
- Ken Levine is one of Hollywood's most
honored and most prolific comedy writers. In the 1970s, he was Head Writer
for M*A*S*H. In the 1980s, he produced CHEERS. In the '90s, Creative
Consultant for FRASIER. Today, Ken continues not only as a hot comedy writer
but also as a director of over 40 episodes of TV including FRASIER, WINGS,
DHARMA & GREG, JUST SHOOT ME, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, BECKER, LATELINE,
FIRED UP, ENCORE ENCORE, and STARK RAVING MAD. The winner of one Emmy and
two Writers Guild Awards, Levine also has written films for stars including Tom
Hanks and Michael Douglas.
- Dan O'Day founded two of radio's most
successful comedy services: OBITS and O'LINERS. Four major network and
syndicated comedy services have come to O'Day for comedy consulting.
- Ron Osborn has been nominated for eight
Emmys. His TV credits include CUPID (Executive Producer), DUCKMAN (Creator/
Executive Producer), MOONLIGHTING (Executive Producer), NIGHT COURT
(Producer), and MORK & MINDY (his first series, on which he was Story
Editor). He and his partner, Jeff Reno, have
written movies for George Lucas and Brad
Pitt. Just last year, they created a comedy pilot for John
Cleese.
- Stevens & Grdnic (Ron Stevens &
Joy Grdnic) have performed as major market morning hosts, written for
network TV comedies, and released two Grammy-nominated comedy albums. They
are partners, with Merrill Barr, in All Star Radio, which syndicates Ron
& Joy's produced comedy on more than 450 radio stations.
MORNING SHOW SUCCESS STRATEGIES (Part Three)
Presenter: Dan O'Day
- Strategy #17: Strategic Contesting - Just
minutes ago I heard a radio station that desperately
needs to incorporate this strategy into its daily programming. Most on-air
contests are lame, unlistenable, and completely ineffective. Your
morning show's contests will forever be the exception... once I've taught
you this strategy.
- Strategy #18: Morning Show Guerilla Tactics
(on-air & off) - If you've seen or heard my Building A Winning Morning
Show tape, you've heard me talk about a different
kind of guerilla tactic; this is not the
same as you learned from that tape. These are very different, very easy to
accomplish, and extremely powerful! (You can
use the techniques I'll reveal to you here...Or you can wait for your
competition to use them against you!)
- Strategy #19: This strategy is another of Rick
Dees' most closely kept secrets...until now.
(Multi-million-dollar-a-year comedians understand this strategy, but few
radio people do.) No matter what your format, you should
be (but probably aren't) doing this.
- Strategy #20: Smart Horizontal Promotion -
Fact is, almost all morning shows get this
completely wrong...and they pay for this mistake
with lower ratings. This is a strategy that you can start using on Monday,
and you'll produce a larger cume (cumulative
audience) beginning on Tuesday!
- Strategy #21: A few cutting-edge
television programmers have made huge fortunes with this strategy. Radio
people? They've been too busy doing the "same old thing" to even
be aware this strategy exists. This method will allow you to make a much
greater audience impact without creating any
more material than you already produce!
- Strategy #22: The One Great Secret To Winning The
Ratings Game - No, it's nothing "fluffy" like,
"Always be prepared." Or, "Always entertain." This is a
genuine, masterful strategy that is unrelenting in its ratings
effectiveness. I'll explain the strategy, and I'll illustrate it with
real-life examples of dominant performers you'll instantly recognize...but
who you never realized built their successes on this
one strategy!
- Strategy #23: Frankly, this last strategy
isn't for everyone. It will produce huge dividends
for any morning show that follows it....But
are you bold enough? Do you have enough
ambition, enough self-confidence to try this? Just how "bold" do
you have to be? Only enough not to be
satisfied with continuing to do the same old things in the same old
ways...And smart enough to realize you'll never leapfrog your competition by
simply continuing to do the "same ole same ole."
YOU SAVE $1,900! Morning Show War
College attendees averaged $2,000 in out-of-pocket
expenses (seminar, travel, hotel). But now you can experience every
moment and every piece of information for
less than 1/10 what they paid!
